Golf “Terms”
Phoenix, Arizona Golf Lessons: Update for Monday, February 8, 2010.
Golf terminology [in no particular order] you may or may not be familiar with:
1. Center – The midpoint between the shoulders.
2. Flexibilty – The lack of muscle tension.
3. Swing – To and fro motion – backward and forward.
4. Mental Direction – Your mind telling the muscles what to do.
5. Path – The arc by the clubhead. The path of the forward swing is not the same as the path of the backswing.
6. Practice – Just hitting balls is not practice. Practice should be performed with a goal(s) in mind.
7. Response – The body responding to the motion of the swing back and forward.
8. Rhythm – The relationship of one side of the swing to the other side.
9. Tempo – The rate or speed of motion.
10. Timing – All parts of the club reach the moment of club-to-ball contact.
If you would like a further explanation of the above “terms” and/or others, then please feel free to contact me. I will respond within 24 hours.
Bunker Practice at Western Skies Golf Course in Gilbert, Arizona
Phoenix, Arizona Golf Lessons Update: 02.04.10
I am often asked this question: “How many golf lessons do I need?” My answers:
1. ‘It depends on how good you want to be.’
2. ‘Are will willing to work very hard?’
3. ‘Will you put in more time to work hard on your short game?’
To be good at golf is subject to your definition of what ‘good’ means to you. We all have strengths and flaws with our game, so you need to always work on both parts. Today I spent 90 minutes at Western Skies Golf Course in Gilbert, AZ.
Here is how I managed 90 minutes for practice:
1. 30 minutes for bunker shots.
2. 30 minutes for chipping.
3. 30 minutes for putting.
The bottom line is this: If you love the game of golf, then work is not such a bad word. You just can’t kid yourself about your time to practice or not to practice. You need to make the decision to accept your current level of play, or make a commitment to do whatever it takes [within reason] to seek improvement. By the way, you probably will not see any major improvements from the golf magazines.

You Do Not Want To Pay For Golf Lessons, Right?
Phoenix, Arizona Golf Lessons Update – January 27, 2010
There are many reasons why golfers and new golfers will not pay for lessons. Perhaps you have taken golf lessons, but you still have not improved. Did you take golf lessons, but did improve only to go back to being frustrated? Are you reluctant to take lessons for fear of failure and wasting your money.
Why pay if your skeptical, right? Why pay because you do not trust the golf instructor, right? Your friend is a golfer and he will coach you, right? You are thinking of hiring the guy on Craigslist who says, “why pay high lesson rates, I only charge $15 per half hour.” There is a reason why he charges only $15 dollars.
Here is what I recommend you do: Look up the definition of “swing.” Also, see if you can find the definition of “swing” in any golf magazine; good luck in find it. If you would like help to find the right golf instructor for you, then please contact me by phone and/or email.
Phoenix Metro Golfers: There Is A River At Rio Salado Golf Course
Arizona [Phoenix Metro] Golf Lessons Update for January 26, 2010
With all the rain here in Arizona of late, the rain made its way through Rio Salado golf course in Tempe. The river, which is usually dry is full of water from last week’s storm. It was nice to play golf last week with water in the “water hazzard;” certainly not the norm.
Superio Golf Shafts – The Premium Golf Shaft
Phoenix, AZ Golf Lessons: Update by Robbie Camacho for January 21, 2010
I re-shafted my Ping G5
9 degree driver with the Superio HM-50T. I was originally going to re-shaft my Taylor Made R7 driver, but I went ahead with the Ping G5. The shaft and head worked out very well. Here are my specs: Superio HM-50 T X Flex 45.25 long. If you are in the market for a new shaft, then do consider Superio Golf Shafts, I highly recommend this shaft company.
About Superio Golf Shafts

Superio HM-50T uses Full-Length 50T grade carbon sheets plus Nano technology. They strongly believe the higher-grade 50T carbon material will help you gain much better results. You will find the shaft produces a very tight shot dispersion, great feel, and incredible ease of control. I can certainly attest to the following:
1. Tighter dispersion as compared to the OEM shaft in my Ping G5.
2. Longer carry.
3. More roll.
4. Longer drives [for me: 270 yards - 290 yards.]
5. Tip stiff [my preference]
6. Mid-flex [my preference]
7. Great feel
8. Aesthetically pleasing colors and graphics

Better golf for 2010
Wedge Play
Tempe – Phoenix – Scottsdale – Arizona Golf Lessons Update: January 18, 2010
Do you chip with your pitching wedge, sand wedge, or lob wedge?
Perhaps you use all three on occasion. Oh, and you may have a “gap” wedge too, sorry. But if you use all of them, then here is a suggestion with regards to “spin” and “roll”. Choose your weapon of choice and proceed with this if you want more roll: Grip your club to full length. For more “spin” so that the ball bites and stops: Grip down on the club. You can vary how much you grip down. You will see a difference on how the ball reacts by just altering your hands high or low onto your golf club.
For more information about golf instruction and golf coaching in Tempe, Arizona, please contact me. You can set a time in the morning, afternoon, and evening, and late evening as well. Note to all golfers aspiring to get better: There are no shortcuts, gimmicks, clubs, magic potions, and “guarantees” on how to improve.
Attention Arizona Golf Fans: Are You Reading What To Do, But Not Improving Your Golf Swing?
For all Arizona golfers and golfers worldwide: Update for January 12, 2009
You probably have read many golf tips and articles from all the major golf publications such as, Golf Digest, Golf Magazine, Golf Illustrated, Golf Tips, Golf For Women, Senior Golfer, Golf Week, and your local free golf publications. But are you really improving your golf swing? Do you get frustrated to the point of giving up? Are you desperate to “try” anything at this point? Well, even the best player(s)
get frustrated too. But of course it’s at a different level of frustration, right? After all they are the best on the planet.
Well, you are not only reading from the mags, you are probably getting swing advice from your buddies, YouTube.com, Golf Channel, DVD’s, and the Internet. But here is what you are not getting [most of the time] the reasons of “why” and “because.” I am sure at some time in your golf history someone told you to keep your eye on the ball, keep your head down, turn your shoulders, fire your hips, hold the club as if you were holding a bird, right? But very few will tell you “why” and “because why.” As a golfer you need to know why you should do “something,” and that “something” is to learn how to swing the golf club.
For more information on how to “swing” the golf club, please contact me at (602) 828-GOLF, or email rcamacho at azgolfinstructor dot com. If you would like the answers, I will tell you “why” and “because.”
Happy Golfing In 2010,
Arizona Golfers: You Can Learn New Things On The Driving Range
Phoenix / Tempe / Scottsdale / Arizona Golf Lessons Updated for January 8, 2010.
The other day I was practicing at Rio Salado Golf Course in Tempe, and I wanted to share this:
Cleaning your golf clubs is obvious, but how one does it may vary. The “cleaning tool” that Dolly uses really works. It is small and will fit in any size golf bag. All you need is water and soap (dish washing soap).
Arizona Golf Playing Lessons For 2010
The best way to learn how to play the game of golf is on the golf course. And for the advanced player, a playing lesson can help with lower scores. Here in Arizona we are blessed with many golf courses to choose from. I my opinion: Rio Salado Golf Course in Tempe, AZ is a great place to play and learn the game on. Yes, I teach and coach there, but for the money it’s worth it. And, by the way, they added new yellow range balls. These are not the limited flight ones – they go long.
Why a play lesson? Well, I get the opportunity to see what my students can do in real playing situations. The playing lesson will cover all parts of his or golf swing and golf game from full swing to the short game. The play lesson is just not limited to “golf swing” coaching, but rules of the game, and golf course etiquette are parts that must me learned and understood too.
